Like A Virgin

Always on the hunt for tasty, alcohol-free summer cocktails I was struck with a curious notion to mix up a blueberry-basil combination.

To make the inaugural test, I muddled about 1/4 cup roughly chopped, fresh basil with 1 teaspoon of sugar, added blueberry juice (pure, unsweetened) to fill a third of the glass, topped it up with sparkling water, and garnished with a lime wedge.

Essentially a twist on the mojito but without the booze. I wanted to call it the Blue Virgin, but then Andrew suggested Blue Ball.

Blue Ball it is.

It’s not bad. Though it is missing something. A bit of zing.

I think using fresh, no-spray blueberries and muddling them with the basil might be the thing.
