Two Steps Back
Studio work has been going well. I painted for almost six hours today.
Unfortunately, most of it (the time and the paint) was spent trying to match a certain hue. What is frustrating is that my tests look adequate but when I apply paint to the piece itself it is “too”.
Too fleshy. Too pink. Too warm. Too wrong.
Several layers of paint (and gesso and paint and gesso, etc., etc.) later I decided to stop. The artificial light in the studio is extremely poor. Maybe in tomorrow’s daylight the colour will look more…right.
Or maybe by tomorrow I will have convinced myself that an exact match is not necessary as the pieces I am trying to colour match will be some distance away from the originals and differences won’t be easily discernible.
