Superzeroes

I went to see The Watchmen on the weekend.

I’ve been told the graphic novel is amazing. I’d like to say the movie was, too…I will say that I thoroughly enjoyed the opening credits. As a “stand alone” the rest of the picture fell a bit short of the mark for me – maybe I hold the target too high?

Could be it’s not the movie at all. I re-watched the first Spiderman movie last night. I quite liked this flick the first time around. On second viewing, it didn’t seem as great as I’d remembered.

Could be that I just don’t believe in superheroes any more.

As a long-time fan of the original work I am hesitating on the film… seems redundant for such incredibly rich source material. I was sorry to hear that they left out one of my favourite elements of the book, namely the comic-within-the-comic “Tales of the Black Freighter”. See, there’s this kid that reads this comic? At periods in the book? And the plot in the comic kinda mirrors the churning madness of the 1980s geopolitik? An’ there are PIRATES n’ junk? And this one guy, he makes a RAFT out of DEAD BODIES. Actually, you probably would like the book. I can lend you my copy. PIRATES, Jody, PIRATES!!! In Watchmen!! Brilliant stuff.
